Here is the official Endurance Nation results update for the week ending on 9/11/2011.
EN had a total of 15 athletes race in Ironman® and Half-Ironman® races with an 80% PR rate! Congratulations to everyone — you can read the full details below.
Races on 9/11
Clayton Bushong ran this half ironman, his first, and finished with a time of 6:29.
Superfrog Long Distance Tri
Jonathan A Needell finished his race in 5:00:28, for a new PR! He said it was a “Very cool non-WTC race.” Members can read his full race report here.
David Morris PR’d his this half Ironman® with a time of 5:13 and he said “I felt I was undertrained for this race due to injuries throughout the year. This is a new course with a difficult bike and several hills requiring out of the seat work. Nice to have the PM to help dictate the work on the bike. Dialing the bike effort back some from previous races helped me set a run PR by almost 15 minutes.”
Aaron MacGray crossed the line in 12:03:55, earning a new PR. Of the race experience he said “I swam faster than all my rehearsal swims, and I killed the marathon but the wind and hills really slowed me up on the bike. I kept my watts in check and I’m sure that why I was able to just fly by everyone in the run. That is truly a great feeling. Negative split the run once again!”
Jon Allen was unable to finish the race, but said “A must do for anyone who REALLY wants to test themselves. Sadly I got taken off the bike at 73 miles as I’d been badly sick twice. Spent 2 1/2 hours in medical with low blood sugar and low blood pressure. Not a great day for me but got back out and gave support. I’ll tame IMWales oneday….”
William Jenks earned a new PR with a time of 11:22:59. He said “The simplest thing to say was that I was totally prepared for the race. The strong points of the race were mine, and my weak points were of my making too. I have a better race in me, but if you don’t think that, you aren’t alive. The EN plan had me ready to go. I peaked at the right time without burning out and without abandoning my family for many weekends. The EN community is invaluable as well as the coaches.”
Jason Zilles ran his first Ironman® race and finished in 13:38:36!
David Dobogai was also competing in his first Ironman® and crossed the line in 14:15:12. Of his experience he said “Really cool experience. I know that I left a lot out there on the course. I’m working on my race report. Can’t wait to start the OS!”
Dave Barr PR’d with a finish time of 14:15:12.
Daniela Williams finished her very first Ironman® race in 11:07:04 and said “There is no way I could have mentally survived the training of ‘old school’ training. I also know that walking every aid station was key in not slowing down too much. I’m very happy with my first IM, but have no plans on ever doing one again. Ended up 10th overall women age groupers and 5th in age. The support of ENers both spectating and racing helped so much in pushing me forward. Thanks!!”
Brian Comiskey (photo at left) earned a PR of 12:17 and said “Thanks to EN I was able to PR and make the 112 mile bike ride one of my easiest rides of the year. “
Beth Pfohl was another Team EN athlete with a PR at IMWI. She finished in 12:58:53 and said “What a great day! I had a wonderful swim and bike (shaved 4 minutes off the swim and 10 minutes off the bike). I also shaved almost 5 1/2 minutes off total transition time. I fell apart on the run from mile 7ish to about mile 14. I was dehydrated and malnurished, but I was able to get through it and negative split the marathon!!! It was a mental struggle, but I new I could break 13 hours if I kept moving on at about 10 to 10 1/2 minute/mile. My husband was also competing and I kept getting updates from friends and family cheering us on. He was doing well so that made me happy and motivated me to keep moving. Wisconsin 2011 was mentally probably the toughest race I’ve done in my life. I’ve had hard races, but I think I pushed through this one better than any I’ve ever competed in. Thank you TEAM EN for the tools and the support!!”
Lauren (Parello) McDonald (photo at right) raced to a 12:45 finish for a PR and said “After following the EN plan for my first season (6th Ironman), I now truly believe in EN. While I was battling a hamstring injury all year, I managed a 16 minute PR because of drinking the EN koolaid all year. You guys put together a smart, difficult training plan that I will follow for every Ironman® I compete in in the future. I have been trying for years to reach a PR, and with one season on EN, I was finally able to break the 13 hour mark that I’ve been trying to do for so long. Thank you both so much!!!”
