2013 Is Shaping Up to be Our Best Year Yet!

We have already made some significant changes to our OutSeason training plans…cutting them from 20 weeks to 14, and then adding the option for an athlete-defined “Focus Block”.  Our Ironman and Half Ironman plans have brand new volume guidance and race-specific intervals with all new videos and podcasts for 2013. In the meantime we have also reshaped how Endurance Nation will support our community in the coming season.

A mix of new regional training camps and a national rally (Tucson, AZ in March!) combined with our regular Triathlon Rallies and a few Key Events means there will be almost no way you can avoid connecting with the Team! How We Train & Why It’s Right For 95% of Triathletes

Conventional wisdom (and most magazines & publications) will tell you that becoming a triathlete requires making significant sacrifices. CW tells you that:

  • You will need to carve out huge swaths of time. If some training is good, more training is better.  Instead of using up all your time, Endurance Nation leverages intensity to create additional training stress from week to week. This means that your schedule remains relatively fixed for each key phase of training, instead of increasing each week from reasonable…to challenging…to all-consuming…to overwhelming. If you have found yourself putting up mega hours and you are more than three months away from your “A” race, then you are on a CW plan. Endurance Nation can help you regain control of your schedule, your fitness and your results!
  • You will need a custom, personalized training plan built around your needs and circumstances.  Simply not true. Your life is certainly your own, but your body doesn’t build fitness any differently than anyone else. The friction then, isn’t in some fancy workout just for your quads at six weeks out from your race…it’s in making the training schedule fit your life: moving swims, changing bikes, adapting runs for the road warrior. We do this every single day inside TeamEN, whether on the forums, via email, our online chat or via text message…we have you covered. You coach’s job isn’t to write workouts, but rather to make the plan work especially for you.
  • You will have to spend lots of money to get the support & equipment you need to be your best.  Triathlon is certainly expensive, but only as much as you want it to be. Just as you can pick a reasonable frame vs the latest stealth carbon time-slayer, you can also pick TeamEN and pay just $109/4 week block. This is literally $350/month less than what other experienced coaches would charge for 1:1 coaching – a savings of $4200 per year!!! Not to mention we have significant discounts with industry leading brands, as well as great first-hand information from your peers as to what gear is (and isn’t) worth an investment.
  • It will take you three to five years (!) to be your best…so you had better be in this for real! While building fitness certainly takes time, you can start getting better right away. From our focused workouts to our Race Execution resources, we pride ourselves in moving “average” triathletes several years down the experience food chain through education and practice.  Yes consistency and continued big-picture progress matters, but inside EN we look to see improvement every month and week, not every year.

The Endurance Nation Season

We start our year with the PreSeason where we recover from a long season and work on technique and skills when there is zero emphasis on speed or distance. After a few weeks we transition to the OutSeason (OS) — an intense period of training designed to build new levels of speed and strength on the bike and run when you have no volume goals associated with your races.

The OS is followed by a Focus Block (FB), where you can dedicate up to six weeks to improve a core discipline — maybe you need to work on your run fitness, perhaps your bike strength is lagging. After the FB, you will take a short Transition (T) break where you recharge before your real season begins. Your InSeason (IS) training is a reflection of your fitness and goals: most triathletes transition right into the 12-week Race Prep (RP) phase; only those needed some additional time (beginner athletes or those returning from injury) are encouraged to do the General Prep phase (GP).

This model allows us to build your fitness effectively while leaving the longer training to the time of year when you can (and need!) to get outside. By the time you do join your friends on your local ride, you’ll be significantly stronger than last season…you might even have to find a new group!
