Our Vision
"Training Camp" is probably a little too formal while "Tour" may imply
a wicker basket on your bars, with wine and cheese at the end of a 40 mile
ride. Instead, we offer you a "Training Tour."
- Training: The Tour organizers have chosen challenging routes, as you can see from the past years - 2010 will prove to be no different! Big miles, big climbs, big views and big crowds of spectators to cheer
you on! As our core customer is the Ironman athlete, we expect them to
be challenging themselves even further by running when they can. Sorry, no swimming this week (you'll get over it).
- Tour: We give you the route and planned support on the course. When you leave, how you ride, and when you arrive at the next destination is entirely up to you. Groups will certainly form during the camp, but your fitness and your goals will determine how you ride.
We feel this combination maximizes the training AND tour potential of
YOUR experience. Our intent is to maintain a social, high-quality
training environment where athletes committed to the fitness lifestyle
can share their experiences - and this incredible terrain - with each
other.
Cost: $2795, includes the following
- Riding the official Tour of California on
some of the most beautiful and challenging terrain you have ever seen. Participants wishing to stay the final night of the Tour are responsible for their own lodging, which we can facilitate for you.
- Seven nights hotel accommodations (Saturday thru Friday, double occupancy, breakfast sometimes included). Participants preferring a single room may pay an additional $500.
- Support vehicles providing snacks and SAG along the route.
- Your own personal EN large gear bag (35lb limit) for all of your stuff.
- EN Cycling Jersey.

Couples/Training Partners Discount of 10%:
Nearly all of our participants last year were couples or training
partners. We'd like to facilitate you getting clearance from the tower
to share this experience with your Significant Other or training
partner! Register as a couple or with a training partner and you'll both receive a 10% discount!
Itinerary
We will publish the draft itinerary when the tour announces the
host cities for each stage. We will publish the final itinerary as soon
after the tour publishes stage maps and profiles. This is the basic
outline of what you can expect each day:
- It is neither possible nor desirable to ride every mile of every stage. The terrain is challenging, we are not pro cyclists nor do we have the option to sit in a peloton of 150 other pro cyclists and be towed to the finish each day! In addition, most stages have a circuit finish on the back end, which we can't do. Trust us, you'll get your money's worth of mileage and suffering without riding every mile of the Tour! In general, you can expect 3.5-5+hrs of cycling every day, for seven days, day after day. The total mileage will be around 400-450 for the week, with 25-30hrs on the saddle. This is a challenging event!
- As often as possible we'll try to start the day's riding from the hotel, with the B group leaving ahead of the A group. Both groups will likely be rolling by 9am at the latest, depending on the start time of the race. We generally give ourselves a 2hr head start, minimum. Each group will ride to the same pickup point, the B's just have more time to get there.
- A and B is a loose definition. The terrain, varying athlete strength and group riding ability usually translates into rather small and loose groups of similarly matched participants riding with or near each other. You are free to ride however you like, but we've found the ride is more enjoyable if you share it with a riding partner(s).
A non-refundable $500 deposit is required to reserve your spot.
Balance of $1995 due by Dec 15th. Registration after Jan 15th is $2695,
balance paid in full, non-refundable.
Tour Cancellation Policy - READ IT!
- The initial deposit to hold your space on the Tour is nonrefundable.
- Once the balance is paid, if a rider cancels, for any reason, the following refund schedule applies: More than 60 days before the Tour - 50% refund; 30-59 days before the Tour - 25% refund; less than 30 days, no refund.
- Registration fees are non-transferable.
- A gear bag is supplied and must be used to standardize van loading.
- Before you sign up, we recommend you consider trip cancellation insurance if you are unable to attend.
Meals: Riders are on their own for most breakfasts and all dinners. We know some training camps include all meals.
However, our experience is that after a long day in the saddle, most
people have their own post-ride and meal agenda and would rather not be
stuck with the single option given by the camp. Some folks prefer a
formal meal and the company of other riders. Some just want to eat a
sandwich in their room, relax, maybe check in with the family and surf
the Internet, etc. Some prefer a large breakfast while others skip it
all together, preferring to eat while riding. We'll have a few options
for you to choose from each day; it's up to you to decide. Comparable
tours are at least $1000 more than ours. We guarantee you won't spend
even half of that difference buying your own breakfast and dinner.
Training Food: The tour
is breathing down our necks and if you stop for 15' to eat a ham
sandwich and a YooHoo they've just rolled you up by about 7 miles! This
is a training tour, not a century with Boy Scouts shoving cookies down
your throat! We will provide Infinit drink mix and Clif bars for you on
the course. We will also have a healthy supply of breakfast food
available (bagels, fruit, muffins, yogurt, etc, to supplement the hotel
fare) that you can dip into. If you have special training nutrition
needs beyond what we will supply for you, it is your responsibility to bring enough for yourself.
Each day is very busy and we don't have time to make runs to the only
bike shop in town to find your double-top-secret gel, bar, etc.
Fitness: To
enjoy this training tour, your training in the previous six months
should include several rides of 2-4hrs, though strong athletes from
northern latitudes who have been relegated to the trainer for months
have done just fine. Our athletes have ranged from low 5hr to mid 6hr
Ironman bike splits. We recommend 39 x 27 (or 25) as your lowest gear. A
compact crank is even better, or a triple may be appreciated near the
end of the week. Bring a sturdy set of wheels, not your fancy race
wheels, as we can't fix or replace wheels on the road. We will handle all the tubes, CO2, etc.
Arrival:
You will join us in on Saturday (Saturday lodging is included in the
Tour price); we'll meet up to review the week and prep for the Sunday ride from Davis. Our space is limited and we can not transport bike boxes during
the tour. When you register you'll get instructions for shipping your bike to Rich's house in Monrovia,
CA. We will assemble your bike for you and transport it to the start of
the Tour.
Departure:
After the race is done we'll
pack up the bikes. We will do our best to facilitate using the camp and
our private vehicles to get you to the airport if you are flying out Saturday night, but you may need to book an airport shuttle. Lodging
Sunday night is not included in the cost of the Tour. If you'd rather
ship your bike, we can ship it for you (you pack it!) and invoice you
afterwards.
