Today was the epic 135-mile stage from Seaside to San Luis Obispo. The day started out ominously with some rain and a bit of wind, and it only got worse as the day wore on. We rolled ahead to Big Sur to drop people in with a slight head start on the day, with the goal of pulling folks from the course in Cambria or Morro Bay…let’s just say that we pulled the plug at the top of the first KOM of the day, a mere 45-miles on the day.Conditions were simply deplorable. As the video above shows, we faced buffeting winds, slashing rain, and temps in the low 40s. One personal highlight was getting blown over by the wind…and having my bike nearly blown off a cliff when I tried to lay it down on the ground. Most agreed that while we could have kept riding…but no one fought for the privilege. Everyone dismounted and got into the vans; we rolled to the hotel to get warm and dry!! More pics soon!
