EN Swim Clinic on 12/14 @ Bosse Sports in Sudbury, MA

Posted by admin On November - 15 - 2008

Coach Patrick McCrann of Endurance Nation presents the Off-Season Swim Clinic on Sunday December 14th 2008 from 3pm to 6pm at Bosse Sports Club in Sudbury, MA.

Swimming is approximately 80% technique and 20% fitness…and off-season is 100% about technique! Proper swimming requires focused mental attention to every lap, instead of mindless wall tag. A critical step in improving your ability to swim well is to master the basics of how you interact with the water.  Coach Patrick will review the fundamentals of position, breathing, and balance, he will cover the EN basic swim drill progression and conclude with the mechanics of a proper catch.

Participants will leave the clinic with printed speaker notes, a free copy of our Swim eBook (including underwater video of the drill demonstrations) and an 8-week training plan. This is our sixth consecutive year running our winter tri swim clinic series; come and experience what has helped hundreds triathletes get faster in the water!

The clinic space is limited to 12 participants, cost is $125 per person. Use the link below to sign up today!

EN vs Discover Card: Customer Service Matters

Posted by admin On November - 14 - 2008

I am constantly shocked by how big companies treat their customers. Even though Endurance Nation is a small entity, we agonize long and hard about decisions that could not only affect our customers, but that could simply change the way our customers perceive us. I have come to learn that this is not the norm, and I was reminded of it yesterday on the phone.

As an online businesss, we maintain serveral merchant accounts with major credit card companies to ensure that we can process payments from all of our customers regardless of their preferred method of payment. This is pretty standard.

So getting a phone call from Discover Card customer service seemed pretty normal…until it wasn’t. Here’s the rough transcript:

Discover: Hi, my name is XXXX and I am calling on behalf of Discover Card. Can I speak to the business owner?
Me: That’s me, go ahead.
Discover: I want to make you aware that we are sending you our 2009 rate package information in the mail and that it will include info on a new program. We will call you back in 30 days to see whether or not you want to be a part of that program.
Me: Okay.
Discover: I just need another 30 seconds of your time.
Me: (Silence; not sure what else is needed here)
Discover: I’d like to confirm that you have agreed to enroll in Program X, blah blah blah…
Me: What? Excuse me?
Discover: You said Yes, so I am enrolling you…
Me: I said Yes to you sending me something, not to joining something. (Angry words exchanged, phone call ended.)

Clearly someone in corporate HQ at Discover Card thought that pulling a bait and switch on their own customers was a great idea to push new business. I think that the program, and the way they implemented it, shows just how much they care about me and my business.

First order of the day? Cancelling that merchant account. As a growing online business I simply can’t afford to be associated with a bad apple.

Remember that in tough times like our current economic situation, relationships outweight economic considerations.  Treat me well now, when we are at rock bottom, and I will be there for you when times are great. Mistreat me now and lose my business forever. Can’t wait to pull the trigger on this one…
