With the prognosis of excellent weather on tap for today, all but the most seasoned camper went to sleep with visions of sunscreen and sunglasses in their heads. Unfortunately the wily veterans were right (again). Not long after the group departed for their epic off course trip, the heavens dumped a ton of rain on them. Visibility was something like 25 feet for about 20 minutes!!!
The long ride off course turned out to be much longer than planned, due mainly to my (Coach P’s) poor google-mapping skills. Seems my 95 mile ride on paper was actually 106 in real life…but what’s another 11 miles between friends??? (post script — apparently a lot, as I caught a ton of sh*t from everyone about it!!!).

Anyway, today saw one of the more spectacular flat tires we have ever had at an ENation camp. Dan K was zipping along when *bang* his rear wheel was flat and making a “tick….tick….tick….tick” noise. Turns out, that’s the noise your rear wheel makes when a rusty nail goes through your tire, tube, and then your RIM. Yes, through is rim (see the pic!).

With Dan and Mike in the car, we were headed back into town when we came across Kelly (non-camper), walking back up the big descent into town. She had been climbing in when her derailleur got into her spokes and wrenched off the frame. Turns out she had been walking for 20 mins before we stopped, with countless cars just passing by. Where is the love???
On my second trip out of town, I saw three of our crazy campers going up that same descent (maniacs!!!) and then picked up Stuart and Mark at the turn in Jay. We found Greg with a flat tire right around the corner and after fixing that, went ahead to the out and back. There we fuelled Matt, Rex and Ryan to ride the out and back, and Staci to head home.

When everyone wrapped up their day, either with a run or a cold beer, we all enjoyed some killer tenderloin steaks as prepared by Stuart and his hench-chefs Jennie and Stacy. AWESOME DAY!
